The Institute of AI in Education (AI Education Group) was founded by Dr Beth Lane and Narinderjit Gill, two leaders united by a shared mission: to transform artificial intelligence education and empower every learner to become an architect of our technological future.
We believe that understanding AI is no longer optional but essential. AI literacy goes beyond comprehension; it requires agency, ethics, and imagination. Our work bridges cutting-edge research with proven educational practice, creating pathways for children and educators to not only navigate the AI revolution but to lead it with confidence, creativity, and critical insight.
Dr Beth Lane
Founder, AI in Schools | AI Researcher & Educator
Dr Beth Lane is a Computer Science educator and AI researcher with a background in medical AI. In addition to Co-Founding the AIE, she is the Founder of AI in Schools and Co-Founder of CS Re:Boot.
Beth's research and publications in AI and deep learning focus on translating complex computational ideas into meaningful learning experiences. Passionate about empowering teachers and students to move from passive users to active creators, Beth champions a vision where every learner can interrogate, innovate with and ethically shape the technologies defining their generation.
Narinder Gill
DfE RISE Adviser, Director of Leadership & Transformation
Narinder is a seasoned educational leader, executive coach, and author with over three decades of experience driving sustainable improvement across schools. She has led some of England’s most challenging primary schools, embedding compassionate, inclusive, and evidence-informed approaches to teaching and leadership.
As a DfE RISE Adviser, Narinder supports trusts and system leaders in achieving sustainable improvement and excellence. Her work focuses on strategic development, accountability, and leadership growth, helping educators translate vision into measurable, lasting impact. Guided by integrity and a deep belief in human potential, she champions education that empowers both staff and students to thrive.
The Institute exists as a national centre of excellence for AI literacy, teacher development, and educational innovation. We are building a global movement not simply preparing learners for an AI-driven future, but equipping them to design that future with wisdom, ethical clarity, and purpose.
We envision classrooms where AI is not feared or misunderstood, but embraced as a tool for creativity, problem-solving, and positive change. Where educators are equipped not only with knowledge but with inspiration. Together, Beth Lane and Narinderjit Gill co-founded CS Reboot and the AI in Education Group, groundbreaking initiatives designed to make computer science and AI education accessible, joyful, and equitable for all learners.
